Julius Linnenbrink
“The idea of an abstract space or location of the mind as the condition for action is the subject of my painting. Examining the conditions for this location is simultaneously an examination of the foundations for action. I am interested in correlation, the differences and contradictions between an acting individual (the self) and the result of the action. During the painting process I give my complete attention entirely to the action of painting itself. Within this process, I allow myself the freedom to define the act of painting as a space free from judgement and from inhibition. This space allows me to enter a different mental state while I am painting, that is to say, a more free mental state. A kind of flow in which action and thought increasingly converge until they reach a point where they can no longer be separated, no longer be differentiated from each other. I don’t experience this as a spiritual, meditational or physical ecstasy; it is instead a sensitisation of activity that allows me to come into direct contact with myself. This flow brings together intuition, rhythm, action, reaction, speed, time, trust and sincerity. They form the basis of my action and transcend the boundaries of my thought“. – Julius Linnenbrink
