Daniele Marzorati. Déplacement

16.01.2019 – 16.02.2019

In the overabundance of images with which two global cities, Shanghai and Paris, are today swamped, Daniele Marzorati focuses on some details of three precise places. He then reworks them using photography, frottage and painting. The traces of the colonial past, stratified and concealed in the contemporary visual landscape, reappear from the start in ambiguous images in which we perceive apparent innocence and aesthetic seduction. However, by paying close attention to the “surface of things”, it is possible to perceive the pervasive nature of the influence of historical domination processes on contemporary visual codes and glimpse the complex relationships between representation and power, imperialism and science, nature and politics” – Giulia Golla Tunno.

Daniele Marzorati (Novedrate, Como, 1988) works in a blend of drawing, painting and photography. One of the finalists for the Terna 04 Award, he has published two works with A-Rivista and, in 2015, won the Agarttha Arte award, exhibiting at the MEP Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris and the PAV Parco Arte Vivente in Turin. He has has been recently working between Paris and Shanghai, and participated in a two-month residence in Shanghai. In 2018 he won the Artifact Prize. Now based in Milan, he continues his research into painting and photography as complementary languages capable of re-interpreting reality.
