Michele Ciacciofera represented by BUILDING

01.02.2024

We are pleased to announce the new artist represented by BUILDING, Michele Ciacciofera.

Currently on view at BUILDING TERZO PIANO, his solo show Condensing the Infinite curated by Angelo Crespi.
The exhibition will continue until February 17th, 2024. It were deliberately chosen as a tangible extension of the show dedicated to the artist, at MA*GA Museum in Gallarate, on view from December 17th, 2023 to April 7th, 2024.

Michele Ciacciofera (Nuoro, 1969) lives and works in Paris. His work is characterised by the use of a variety of media: from painting to sculpture – using ceramics, glass, bronze, stone and assemblages of materials – to drawing and sound.

By means of an anthropological approach, the artist explores different themes linked to the islands he is from, Sardinia and Sicily, through the prism of the Mediterranean. Collective memory, revisited myths, and contemporary political reality mix with works marked by sensitivity to matter, and the artist’s acute awareness of current issues, related to the reconfiguration of socio-economic and environmental balances.

Driven by constant reflection and research based on numerous sources, Ciacciofera is first and foremost interested in the human subject and his narrative, as well as the feelings he aims to convey through his choice of materials. To give shape to poetic experiences, he constantly draws on his studies in political science, his interest in anthropology, archaeology, environmental issues, and his obsession with individual and collective memory, always with a strong communicative capacity.

His works have been exhibited at the 57th Venice Art Biennale, Documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens, the MAN Museum in Nuoro, the CAFA Museum in Beijing, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rochechouart (France), the Rennes Museum, the Summerhall in Edinburgh, the IMMA Museum in Dublin and numerous other international museum institutions. He received the Civitella Ranieri NYC Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship in 2015-2016. He is currently developing two solo exhibitions in France and one in Scotland, two major public works in France and Italy, and a site-specific work, with which he will participate in the 6th Mardin Biennial of Contemporary Art in Turkey (May 2024).

Michele Ciacciofera is represented by Galerie Michel Rein in France and Belgium, Vitamin Creative Space in Asia and Voice Gallery in Africa.
