Numero Cromatico

Numero Cromatico is an artist collective, research centre and independent publishing house founded in Rome in 2011.Composed of researchers from various fields – visual arts, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, design – the collective operates with a transdisciplinary approach. At the heart of Numero Cromatico’s research is the study of perceptual phenomena, language and aesthetic experience, with a particular focus on the role of the viewer. The group creates works of art, installations, publications and visual devices that aim to activate cognitive, sensory and emotional processes beyond the conventions of traditional art appreciation.

 

For years, he has been promoting debate on the relationship between art and neuroscience, including through ‘Nodes – Journal of Art and Neuroscience’, a leading neuroaesthetics journal for researchers around the world.

In 2019, Numero Cromatico conducted the first neuroaesthetics experiment at an art fair in Italy at ArtVerona and won the i10 award for Best Independent Reality.
In 2020, it won the Exhibit Programme of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and the Best Hybrid Space in Italy award promoted by ‘Artribune’.
In 2021, Numero Cromatico was a finalist for the Re:Humanism Art Prize, won the Sala Santa Rita Contemporanea Award promoted by Azienda Speciale PalaExpo and the Italian Council X promoted by the DGCC of the MiC. In 2022, it won the Taverna Award and was named Best Emerging Artist of the Year by ‘Exibart’. For three years (2021-2023), Numero Cromatico won the grant for Brain Awareness Week, promoted by FENS and the DANA Foundation. In 2024, it won the 17th edition of the Talent Prize promoted by ‘InsideArt’.
Numero Cromatico has exhibited its work in various public and private institutions, fairs and galleries, including the MAXXI Museum (Rome and L’Aquila); the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rome; the National Roman Museum, Rome; the Pescheria Visual Arts Centre, Pesaro; Italian Cultural Institutes in Belgrade, Bucharest, and Tirana; CAMERA, Turin; ArtVerona; Arte Fiera Bologna; Flashback, Turin; Paper Positions Berlin; and Art Karlsruhe.
