Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta

From June 19th to October 20th, 2024 the Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta hosts the exhibition Artenumero. Artists and number between the 20th and 21st Centuries, a view of the art scene of the last sixty years through the use of the number. The exhibition, promoted by the Department of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Educational System and Policies for Intergenerational Relations of the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta, is curated by Angela Madesani and produced by Nomos Edizioni.

More than seventy works by important Italian and international artists are presented, divided into five sections, in a transversal path that crosses languages, themes, and thoughts of history in which the number becomes a fundamental moment of reflection for the artist and the observer.

On show works by: On Kawara, Luca Pancrazzi, Elena Modorati, Alighiero Boetti, Franco Vimercati, Roman Opałka, Carlo Valsecchi, Daniela Comani, Piero Manzoni, Elisabeth Scherffig, Antoni Tàpies, Elisabetta Casella, Joseph Kosuth, Pietro Bologna, Peter Dreher, Paolo Pessarelli, Edward Kienholz, Cioni Carpi, Andrea “Bobo” Marescalchi, Ed Ruscha, Ugo Nespolo, Luigi Ghirri, Maurizio Nannucci, Robert Tiemann, Hanne Darboven, Mimmo Iacopino, Vincenzo Merola, Bernar Venet, Mel Bochner, Laura Grisi, Mario Merz, Vincenzo Agnetti, Beatrice Pasquali.

In one of the sections of the exhibition, dedicated to the relationship between number and time, works by some of the most important artists in the international conceptual sphere, such as On Kawara, are exhibited, with books and postcards in an existential dimension between the personal and the collective.
The number is also closely linked to the temporal dimension present in five works in the exhibition by Roman Opalka, including photographs and Travel Cards. The Polish artist created one of the most important works on time between 1965 and 2011.
The exhibition also features three works by Vincenzo Agnetti, who over the years has dedicated himself to the relationship between mathematics and language.
