BUILDING Anniversary – Tour of the exhibition with artist and curator

On the occasion of the ninth anniversary of BUILDING’s opening—which took place on October 27th, 2017—we are pleased to invite you to a guided tour of the exhibition Sophie Ko. Testimoni, with the artist and curator Federico Ferrari.

The recently opened exhibition, spread across the three exhibition floors of BUILDING GALLERY, offers a comprehensive overview of the graphic, painterly, sculptural, and installation work of Georgian artist Sophie Ko (Tbilisi, 1981). On this occasion, the gallery is presenting to the public for the first time a corpus of approximately sixty works that explore the themes and artistic languages that characterize the artist’s research. Sophie Ko’s practice is complex, aimed at a radical engagement with the tradition of art history—made possible by an extremely refined formal approach—and capable of combining exquisitely detailed work with materials and a delicate, almost ascetic poetics.

Across its different floors and formal expressions, the exhibition moves between two focal points which, like those of the ellipsoidal painting that concludes the exhibition on the second floor, draw the gaze into an indeterminate temporal dimension—one in which we are called to participate as “witnesses”—before lifting it towards the suspension of time and the eternal perfection of forms, where the visitor is confronted once again with its indestructible witness.
