On Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 at 6PM, ADI Design Museum hosts a talk with artist Tadashi Kawamata to celebrate the publication of the exhibition catalogue Tadashi Kawamata. Nests in Milan, promoted by BUILDING, and the artist’s donation to the museum of the site-specific work Nest in Milan n. 6.

The catalogue, published by BUILDING, illustrates about the homonymous exhibition Tadashi Kawamata. Nests in Milan, on view from March 31st to July 23rd, 2022, at BUILDING and in other venues in the city of Milan: Cortile della Magnolia, Palazzo di Brera, Centro Congressi Fondazione Cariplo, Grand Hotel et de Milan. On the occasion of the exhibition, the Japanese artist in autumn 2022, conceived, at the invitation of the ADI Design Museum and in accordance with BUILDING, a nest specifically made for the museum, placed on one of the light poles in front of the entrance.

The site-specific artwork Nest in Milan n. 6, created by Kawamata, made with the same wood used in the various interventions presented at BUILDING and at the other institutions involved, will be officially donated by the artist to the museum and will become a permanent part of the collection exposed to the public.

Giving a second life to the wood already used for previous works, Kawamata has implemented a virtuous circuit that aims to be more than just an ecological operation. For the artist, following this process means not only showing respect for nature but also supporting a process of change that does not alter the balance of forces at work but facilitates the flow of events and the symbiosis between all the phenomena of the universe. These, in Kawamata’s vision, are closely interdependent with each other and gain meaning when interpreted through the concepts of transformation and processuality.

Point of contact and symbolic union between his works for BUILDING and for the other venues, the one at ADI Design Museum is a small nest housed on one of the light poles in front of the museum’s entrance, which will ideally connect to those already presented in the city, recalling the 2022 exhibition, in which BUILDING presented the largest nest ever made by the artist.

The documentary created on the occasion of Tadashi Kawamata. Nests in Milan exhibition, produced by Kosmo 2.7, will be shown during the talk.

A project in collaboration with ADI Design Museum

The catalogue is available for sale at BUILDING, in selected bookstores, and on the gallery’s online bookshop. On the occasion of the event, on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, the volume will also be available at ADI Design Museum, Milan.
