From June 29th, 2024 to January 12th, 2025, the Civic Museums of Palazzo Buonaccorsi present the group show Vis-à-vis, an unprecedented consideration of 18th Century and contemporary portraiture, curated by Elsa Barbieri, Massimo Francucci and Giuliana Pascucci, with over 60 works comparing past masters and present-day Italian and international artists.

Works by 18th Century authors and 25 contemporary artists, including Fabrizio Cotognini, Leiko Ikemura and Roman Opalka, dialogue with the museum’s prestigious collections, in particular 20th-century authors, through an exhibition itinerary that winds its way through all the floors and fascinating rooms of Palazzo Buonaccorsi. An original artistic meeting from the 18th Century, the golden age of Marche’s portraiture, to the Contemporary, tracing the trajectories of the study of how visual perception – of a portrait – is the result of a process of selection, integration and intuition in which, in addition to the visual faculty, the real datum, conscience, affective adhesion, individual memory and moral focusing intervene.
