From April 14th to June 14th, 2026, the Cittadella degli Archivi of Milan presents Something New: lights, lines, shapes, a solo exhibition by artist Sergio Limonta (Lecco, 1972).
The artist—invited by Director Francesco Martelli to interact with the Cittadella’s exhibition space and the archive—presents eight previously unseen artworks, of medium and large dimensions, representing four distinct aspects of Limonta’s recent research.
On display for the first time are works from the “Legni” series, the “Metalli” series, the “PVC” painting series, and an almost disassembled sculpture. Among these, one work was created specifically using disused materials from the Citadel.

In the central building—known as “the Citadel”—Sergio Limonta presents seven recently created artworks that dialogue with the aseptic space of the room, which houses the terminal of Eustorgio, an archivist robot active in the archive since 2021–2022.
On the walls, there are four artworks dated 2025–2026, belonging to the unpublished series “Legni”—which began with a first piece in 2022—and which currently includes works created using used tube lights, LED lamps, marine wood, and industrial paint.

The exhibition features Colour Proof (2022), a work from the “PVC” series of paintings, created using urethane enamels on PVC and aluminum, as well as two works from the “Metalli” series, composed by metal shelves, tubular lights, LED lamps, and aluminum: Avana Stripes (2025) and the more recent Orizzonte, omaggio a Ettore Spalletti (2026) dedicated to the great master who passed away in 2019. This large-scale work—3 x 1 m— was created using disused materials from the Cittadella degli Archivi itself.

Lastly, in the hangar, on the mezzanine level of the Multipiano building, Limonta has installed Stessa direzione (2023), a sculpture approximately 4 meters long made of LED lights, metal tripods, and various materials that stand in a precarious balance, almost in the process of taking on a more solid form.

The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the BUILDING in Milan.
